Building the first AI-enabled feature for Dow Jones NewsPlus

One of the major projects assigned to me during my time at Dow Jones was to revamp the company information module (CIM) for the NewsPlus 3.0 release. The feature allowed users to look up publicly traded companies and get a detailed overview of the company, their stock metrics, regulatory filings, and key competitors. Since this was a legacy feature, much of the functionality had been ironed out, but we wanted to use this chance to add to the feature based on past user feedback.

The core requirements for the module were given to me by the product director, but it was up to me how it was implemented, as well as how to incorporate AI functionality. I realized that since the B2B datastreams were recently unified, and Factiva (another Dow Jones B2B product) had the exact company information we were looking for, I could bring in Factiva company information and combine with our newswire content. This combination of data gave us the perfect opportunity to generate an AI summary of a company using the data we had.

An FDC3-enabled module in the NewsPlus platform that provides users with deep information about a publicly traded company, key stock metrics, events, regulatory filings, and an AI summary of the company and any recent events based on Newswire content. The module has normal and compact data densities built-in, as well as half and full size heights to fit the NewsPlus dashboard UI pattern.
